AT319 Lab #4 Working with Attribute Data using the FAA Airman Database Part 1

Overview:

In lab today I built upon what I have learned from the ESRI tutorials by working with the FAA Airman Database

Objectives:

  • Objective #1: Understand how tables can be joined using common fields.

  • Objective #2: Demonstrate an ability to conduct a table join operation

  • Objective #3: Demonstrate an ability to perform attribute based queries and generate new feature classes with those queries.

Deliverables:

  • Answers to the questions within the lab document, along with cartographically correct maps.

  • A map with different colored dots for each TYPE of pilot.

  • A map where you query out all P TYPE.

  • A map where you query out all P TYPE with C LEVEL.

  • A map where you query out all U TYPE.

  • A map with only Indiana Counties and airmen points in those counties. Make the dots colored by TYPE.

  • A map with only Indiana Counties and U TYPE airmen.

Process:

  • Open the airmen geodatabases geodatabase and list below what features/tables it contains. Specify the type of feature for each one.

  1. Airmen pts: point feature

  2. Continental us counties: polygon

  3. Fishnet 10 km cont us: polygon

  4. Us zipcode cont: polygon

  5. Pilot basic: table

  6. Pilot cert: standalone table

  • Now take a look at the projection information for each feature. Go into the properties for each feature and under ‘source’, record the projection for each layer.

  1. Airmen pts cont us: WGS 1984

  2. Airmen pts cont us lambert: NA Lambert Conformal Conic

  3. Continental us counties labert: NA Lambert Conformal Conic

  4. Fishnet 10km cont us: NA Lambert Conformal Conic

  5. Points: WGS 1984

  6. Us zipcode cont: NAD 1983

  • In the space below, list out the different Cert type letters, along with the definition of the letter, such U being Remote Pilot

P: Pilot

F: CFI

A: Authorized Aircraft instructor

U: Remote pilot

G: Ground instructor

E: flight engineer H: flight engineer (Special Purpose–Lessee) X: flight engineer (Foreign Based) M: mechanic T: control tower operator R: repairman up to 5 allowed I: repairman experimental acft builder up to 15 allowed. L: repairman light sport aircraft W: parachute rigger D: dispatcher N: flight navigator J: Flight navigator (Special Purpose–Lessee)
